Providing sustainable facilities

From the beginning, the foundation has been working with local communities to reduce their environmental impact through construction and education. Sulubaaï has installed a fresh water supply system for Depla village, a shelter for Sandoval fishermen meetings, a pontoon for boat arrivals during times of high water, and has provided waste recycling systems in both villages and its transport to the Taytay centre.

Organising environmental activities

The foundation regularly organises environmental activities in the villages, such as collecting and sorting the inhabitants’ waste, and rubbish from the sea. The schools participate in these activities, supervised by the village authorities, and the waste is disposed of under Sulubaaï’s supervision.

Sharing knowledge and know-how

The foundation has established marine protected areas with local communities and provides support to help management committees monitor their resources. Sulubaaï creates jobs for nearby villages and provides training for its staff. Sulubaaï’s marine biologists hold lectures and training sessions in the villages of the bay.

Promoting international exchanges

The foundation regularly organises international events and exchanges. In 2018 and 2019, Sulubaaï invited boats such as Tara Ocean and Race For Water during their international expeditions to stop in the bay so the scientists on board could exchange with school children, students and municipality officials. In 2020 the foundation set up an exchange programme between a French high school and Shark Fin Bay’s Philippino high school.
